Microblading has become one of the most-requested services at American Laser Plus in Dearborn Heights — and for good reason. Waking up with perfect brows, every single day, without any makeup effort? That's exactly what microblading delivers. But if you've never had it done before, the process can feel intimidating. This guide covers everything.
What Is Microblading?
Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing technique that uses a fine handheld blade to deposit pigment under the skin in tiny, hair-like strokes. The result looks like natural brow hairs — not drawn-on pencil brows. Done correctly, most people won't even know you've had anything done. They'll just think your brows are naturally perfect.
Microblading vs. Ombré Brows vs. Combination Brows
These are the three most popular eyebrow techniques we offer, and they each create a different look:
- Classic Microblading: Thin, individual hair strokes. Most natural look. Best for dry to normal skin.
- Ombré Powder Brows: Soft, powdery gradient. Lighter at the front, darker at the tail. More defined. Better for oily skin — lasts longer.
- Combination Brows: Hair strokes at the front + powder fill in the body and tail. The best of both worlds. Most popular option at our studio.
What Happens During a Microblading Appointment?
Here's exactly what your appointment at American Laser Plus looks like:
- Shape consultation — we map your brows using golden ratio measurements to find the perfect arch, width, and tail for your face shape
- Color selection — we match the pigment to your natural brow hair and skin undertone
- Numbing — topical numbing cream is applied for 20–30 minutes before any work begins
- Microblading — the process takes 60–90 minutes. You'll feel slight pressure but minimal pain
- Aftercare briefing — we walk you through exactly how to care for your brows for the next 2 weeks
Important: Your brows will look darker and bolder for the first 7–10 days while healing. They may also scab and flake slightly. This is completely normal. The final result is only visible at 4–6 weeks once healing is complete.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
Classic microblading lasts 12–18 months. Ombré brows can last up to 2–3 years. Results vary based on skin type (oily skin fades faster), sun exposure, skincare routine, and metabolism. A touch-up at 4–6 weeks perfects the shape and fills any gaps, and an annual refresh keeps your brows looking freshly done year-round.
Is Microblading Safe?
Yes — when performed by a certified, trained artist in a properly equipped studio. At American Laser Plus, we use sterile single-use blades and medical-grade pigments for every session. We review your medical history and perform a patch test before proceeding. Clients with certain skin conditions (active acne in the brow area, psoriasis, keloid scarring history) or on blood thinners may not be suitable candidates — we review this during your free consultation.
